Started ART centre at B&LC hospital and later Nodal officer of COE of this ART centre.

Chairman and member of Technical Resource group on ART to adults at National Aids Control Organisation, New Delhi for more than ten years.

Conducted CME programmes in Internal Medicine on behalf of MERT for the last 13years. It is well appreciated by all post graduate students from different parts of the country.

Organised a work shop on Curriculum in General Medicine by API. It was accepted by RGUHS and implemented in 2005 for post graduate teachings by the university.

The Emergency Obstetric kit designed by her is being used nationwide. With a vision of reaching medical care to the rural women, she has developed an application (technology based health care ) for risk recognition, transfer and comprehensive care of pregnant women in rural areas and also epartogram enabling distant monitoring of labours.

Dr. I.B. Vijayalakshmi stood first to Bangalore University in MD (Gen. Medicine) and secured Dr. K.S. Shadaksharappa Gold medal in 1977. She is the first Lady Cardiologist of Karnataka, first one to head the department of Paediatric Cardiology in Karnataka. She has had a brilliant academic career and has been awarded totally 36 gold medals and 3silver medal.
She has 140 research papers out of which 45 are international with 100 total citations and citation index of 20.7. Delivered 26 prestigious orations. She has 86 publications including 4 text books for the cardiologists, that includes monogram on “Acute Rheumatic fever and Rheumatic heart Disease” and book on “Step by step to Echo in Congenital Heart Disease” She is the chief Editor of a Text book on-“A Comprehensive Approach to Congenital Heart Disease” (a lifelong Odyssey) for which the book review has been written by Dr. Crystal R. Bonnichsen, of Mayo clinic and published in European heart journal.
She has edited -Cardiac catheterization and Imaging from Pediatrics to Geriatrics. She has set seven world records. For the first time in the world, she has proposed and published “Vijaya’s Echo criteria” for diagnosis of carditis in acute rheumatic fever.
