Message from chairman Emeritus

The Objectives of MERT are :

To conduct and facilitate Continuing Medical Education (CME) programs in various specialties throughout the State.

To motivate and assist research programs.
To conduct public education programsby arranging lectures and publishing informative books.
The MERT was established in 1979 and has a long history of achievements of more than four Decades. The medical students after graduation are in a state of confusion regarding there future career. Some want to settle down as practitioners: many more result to pursue post graduate studies. The family physicians feel that there cut off from acquiring knowledge and skills. In view of the limited number of post graduate programs the government introduced DNB courses after observing the limitations of learning facilities senior professors like Dr. K. S. Shadaksharappa, Dr. Krishnamurthy and others thought of establishing our organisation like MERT to cater to the needs of doctors, consultants, teachers and paramedical staff. in addition, The MERT is expected to encourage research.

The MERT in its more than four decades of existence has achieved its objectives to a large extent. It has conducted more than 2200 CME programs in
various specialties in different parts of the state. It has assisted more than 100 research programs. The response to these programs is encouraging.

What is the future? The process of lifelong learning has been a part of ethos of doctors in view of rapid developments in medical science. There is a need for
more and more dedicated faculty and committed conveners for future expansion of activities. We may venture into the field of Telemedicine for guiding the
doctors in rural areas. The launching of the website is a welcome step in this direction.

l am sure with the enthusiastic support of the trustees and the members, we will be able to build a strong and benevolent organization to foster medical
education in the state.
